Guerrilla Podcasts Chats To Manchester Photographer Alex

I was lucky enough to meet up with local Manchester photographer Alex recently and by way of a personal bonus she was kind enough to allow me to share a few photographs that she’d taken on the South Bank in London whilst she was exhibiting her work.

As suggested earlier, i’ve been lucky enough have a look see at 16 / 17 or so guitar themed photographs taken by Alex whilst she was in an exhibition in London with a number of young people from all over the UK.  Alex also kindly allowed me to share a few of her photographs with you here on Guerrilla Podcasts.

Whilst I was chatting with Alex she told me (Adrian at Guerrilla Podcasts) that the photographs were taken on the south bank of London and as she says, “they’re amazing photo’s and she’s so glad that she took them” as they capture a particular moment in time and that “as she as never seen anything like them before, she’s now able to remember here time” on the South Bank in London every time she looks at these photographs.

I wondered if Alex had a particular favourite photograph?  Alex told me that no one specific individual photograph was her favourite and she suggested that they’re all good for different reasons “which is the joy of photography” and that “one person can love one photo and another may say that’s my favourite”.

In keeping with Guerrilla Podcasts lo-fi approach to creating podcasts and considering the current financial climate, I wondered about the high costs involved in photography being a barrier to getting involved / started!

Alex and I discussed the need / desire to get involved or rather the passion required to Do What You Do with whatever equipment available, which is something that Guerrilla Podcasts champions 110%. Wondering about the cost of equipment to herself, Alex told me that she works with a basic digital camera and that “I started taking photographs on a max spielmann throw away camera” and as such finances was not a barrier to taking photographs at all.

“I think you have to have an eye and a passion for photography, use what you’ve got” Alex continued to tell me that she took many photographs from on the London Eye and of her time in and around London and as she said she was able to get “some amazing Photographs” of the buildings, art work and surrounding areas.

Alex also told me that she has taken a variety of styles / themes whilst she has been on her travels in London, Manchester and places in between “Anything that catches my eye i’ll take photographs off”  and we discussed when she was involved with the Princess Trust the photo’s taken within a local fire station. ” I don’t think i have a real style, i just have a passion for photography”

We also chatted about the fact that she has had a couple of exhibitions in the Contact in Manchester, one of which was around Homelessness and Mental Health which she was kind enough to offer to drop by again in the future and share one or two photo’s and tell me more about the photographs and the stories behind them another time.

We also discussed the possibility of sharing more of Alex’s photographs here on Guerrilla Podcasts and that maybe I could create an online photo gallery for Alex. Allowing you to have a look at more of her work in the coming months.  That most definitely sounds like a plan in my book and something that i’ll look into in the coming weeks / months.

We chatted more about the guitar photographs and the graffiti art that she has seen and photographed and Alex continued to tell me that by taking photographs of other people’s art, she is respecting what the artists are doing, by taking photographs of their work in order to share what they are doing to a wider audience.

Alex told me that she would love to continue with her passion and get more into photography in the future “that’s the joy of art really, when people share their artwork or podcasts you get to experience more of a person and get to experience what they are doing at any time”.

Photo’s on this page are shared with kind permission from Manchester Photographer: Alex.
